 Through discussion and reading of effective writing in all genres, we will explore and discover what makes good writing “work,” what makes it vital, surprising, mysterious, significant, and luminous! We’ll do some short exercises, using your own ideas, as well as some prompts, in making your own writing luminous as well.

Instructor Marsh Muirhead is a dentist, pilot and flight instructor, writer and photographer living on the banks of the Mississippi near Bemidji, Minnesota. His commentaries, reviews, and poetry have been heard on public radio stations KCRB and KBXE, and published in the Bemidji Pioneer. His poetry and fiction have appeared in numerous literary journals including Rattle, New Mexico Poetry Review, Carolina Quarterly, The Southeast Review, Minnetonka Review, North Dakota Review, The Talking Stick, and elsewhere. He has published more than one hundred haiku in all the major haiku journals in the United States, several of which have won prizes, many anthologized in major collections. He is the author of a guidebook – Key West Explained – a guide for the traveler, and a collection of haiku – her cold martini.

The Talking Stick 23 Book Release Party and this Writers’ Workshop will be held on Saturday, September 13, 2014, at Blueberry Pines, located between Park Rapids and Menahga MN on Highway 71. Blueberry Pines Golf Course and Country Club is located approximately 4 miles north of Menahga MN and 8 miles south of Park Rapids MN.

The workshop will run from 9 AM to 12 Noon. The Workshop cost includes lunch at noon. The Book Release Party will start at 1 PM and run till approximately 4 PM. The Book Release Party is free. Lunch at noon will be on your own if you are just attending the Book Release Party. Dinner/supper after the Book Release Party will be on your own.
