For many years, we supported ourselves with donations, book sales, and a few grants. However, it is becoming increasingly difficult for us to fund our books. Without your support and donations, there would be no Jackpine Writers’ Bloc and no Talking Stick books. Remember, your tax donation is tax deductible. We are a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization.

August Writers’ Meeting

Hi Everyone, Today we held our August meeting of the Jackpine Writers’ Bloc. Our next meeting will be on September 15, 2013, from 12:30 to 3 PM at Bella Caffe in Park Rapids MN 56470.

PRESENT: Lorelei, Marlys, Betty, Deb, Sharon, Jerry.

TALKING STICK 22, BOOK PARTY & WORKSHOP: Our books are all done and we have them back, all set for the book release party. We have had one meeting with Blueberry Pines to start planning the workshop and Book Release party on Sept. 21, 2013. We now have 22 signed up for the workshop. We are limiting it to 30.

OTHER WRITERS’ EVENTS: On Monday, Aug. 5, Sharon and Marlys attended Marsh Muirhead’s book signing and reading in Bemidji. He has a new haiku book called her cold martini. Both enjoyed it immensely. Yesterday, Aug. 17, Sharon and Marilyn and Tarah went to the Hackensack Northwoods Art & Book Festival to sell books. Niomi and Deb and Marlys also attended and/or assisted. We had a great day. Yesterday, Aug. 17, Marlys attended Marsh Muirhead’s workshop on haiku. We hope he puts this on again. Marlys really enjoyed it.

FUTURE EVENTS: Sharon is signed up for an October online Loft class called In a Flash: Short Shorts, Micro Memoir, and Prose Poetry. The instructor is Rochell Hurt. Jerry will be attending Wine and Words on August 23 at the Arrowwood Lodge in Baxter MN. At 5:30, there is social hour and silent auction and wine tasting. At 6:30, there will be dinner and presentation by authors William Kent Krueger, Wendy Webb, Sandra Brannan and Sarah Pekkanen. Lorna Landvik will be the emcee. August 24, two events in Park Rapids with William Kent Krueger. Book signing from 3:30 to 4:30 at Beagle Books. 5:30 dinner at the Y Steak House $30. The dinner is sold out.

Loft members party on September 12 at the Loft.
