December Meeting Minutes 2018

Hello Everyone,

Today we held our December 2018 meeting.

PRESENT: Sharon, Dawn, Mike, Jan, Marcie, Niomi, Marlys, Erin, Scott.

TALKING STICK 28:

We will soon be sending out the Call for Submissions for the next Talking Stick. The deadline will be March 1, 2019. We will have the same three genres: poetry, creative nonfiction, and fiction. Out of these, we will also choose one for a Humor prize.

OTHER BOOKS:

We will be done this week with the book by Jan’s friend. Richard’s poetry book will be just a few more weeks. Sharon is working on her fourth poetry book. Tarah is considering a book of her short stories. Mike will have the manuscript for his next book to us shortly.

BOOK EVENTS:

Mike was the author for the October Bookends Second Saturday event in Wadena. He said it was a fun event and he read, talked, and sold books. We have just received a news release stating that the Wadena County Historical Society will take charge of this event beginning in January 2019.

Both Mike and Niomi attended the December PRLAAC meeting. The Great American Story got another grant and will be having another storytelling event in 2019. Ryan might be able to attend some of these meetings in the future.

Marlys is going to be taking an online class on Metaphors at the Loft. Sharon loves these classes and hopes to be able to take another one soon.

Erin has 3 poems published by Wordgathering.com. She has also gotten a poetry book published called “Disability Isn’t Sexy.” She will have a celebration in April at Watermark in Bemidji. Congrats, Erin!

MISCELLANEOUS:

Scott mentioned software called Atomic Scribbler, previously named PageFour. It is like a bare bones Scrivener or WriteItNow. These programs all keep notes for you. Other helpful programs to check out: Evernote, Dropbox, OneNote, Google Cloud.

We had a good meeting, great conversation, lots of good writings, lots of good critique. Hope to see you all next time.
