For many years, we supported ourselves with donations, book sales, and a few grants. However, it is becoming increasingly difficult for us to fund our books. Without your support and donations, there would be no Jackpine Writers’ Bloc and no Talking Stick books. Remember, your tax donation is tax deductible. We are a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization.

January Meeting Minutes 2022

Hello Everyone,

Today we held our January 2022 meeting.

PRESENT:

Sharon, Ryan, Mike, Jan, Mary.

TALKING STICK 31:

TS31 entries are coming in. Be sure to get yours in! We are having a March 15 deadline this year instead of March 1.

WORKSHOP:

We are planning a virtual writers’ workshop with Candace Simar on Sept. 17, 2022. We do not know yet if we will be able to have an in-person book party or not, due to COVID still being with us.

PRLAAC MEETING:

Mike attended the virtual meeting for January. PRLAAC is planning their next summer events, including concerts, Art Leap (Sept. 24-25), a playwright workshop, etc. There is a spot in the armory for some events—we could sell books there.

MISCELLANEOUS:

We are working on a poetry book for Erin and a second poetry book for Jan. Mike’s 5^th book, a hunting memoir, is mostly completed and soon will be ready for editing. He is now starting on his sixth book of cabin stories. Ryan is working on publishing 2 novels.

Mike has a story recently accepted by Fur, Fish, and Game magazine. This was about a trip that he and his son made out west.

MIPA will be having a zoom meeting on public speaking on Feb 8.

Ryan is taking a month-long class called Market Better Faster, marketing for writers.

We recently received information about Hackensack in August of 2022. We will be getting signed up for that soon.

We took turns reading things we have written recently. We have been using the monthly words for almost two years now. One or two of us use the words each month. We agree the words can inspire us to bring up ideas and write things that we might not normally write.
