For many years, we supported ourselves with donations, book sales, and a few grants. However, it is becoming increasingly difficult for us to fund our books. Without your support and donations, there would be no Jackpine Writers’ Bloc and no Talking Stick books. Remember, your tax donation is tax deductible. We are a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization.

We had a fun meeting today, lots of good reading, lots of laughs. The next meeting will be held on the third Sunday of July, the 15th, from 12:30 to 3 PM at Bella Cafe next to Beagle Books in Park Rapids MN.

Present today: Jerry, Jim, Tarah, Sharon, John T, Scott, LuAnne, Russ, Sandi.

TALKING STICK 16
We are progressing on the book. We have heard back from two judges but we are really being held up by the third. Tarah is working on the layout. All the “no” letters have gone out a couple weeks ago. The “yes” letters went out last week except the ones still at the judges. We can’t finalize the layout till we hear from the last judge.

GOLF TOURNAMENT
The golf tournament for the benefit of JWB will be held on Sunday, June 24. For more information, see our website www.jackpinewriters.com. Should be a good time. It will take place at Fair Havens Golf Club, south of Park Rapids. Call 218-732-0519 to sign up or for more information. Or email Sharon at sharrick1@wcta.net. Please pre-register. Moved to July 1 if rained out. 18-hole 4-man scramble, sign-in at 1 PM, shotgun start at 2 PM. Money back and prizes for first two places.

Please let me know if you will be attending to help. We need more people to bring bars, cookies, etc. Tarah and Sharon and Marilyn will be meeting later this week to finalize all plans.

AUTHOR’S FEST IN BEMIDJI
We hope that several of us can attend this event in Bemidji. It is on July 21 from 10 to 5 in the Ink Spot Press building. There will be readings and book sales. Jerry and Scott might be able to go. Tarah and Sharon could possibly go if they can’t.

LIFE LONG LEARNING
LouAnn mentioned some of the upcoming events. They are looking for a well known poet to speak at a future event. For more information, email LouAnn at luicakes@wcta.net.

WRITERS WORKSHOP

BOREALIS BOOKS IN WADENA
November 5-10 will be their Second Annual Wadena Writers Week. They need illustrators, writers, etc. There are still some slots open. Contact Gillette L Kempf 218-632-2665 or bookseller@borealisbookstore.com.
