June Writers’ Meeting

Hi Everyone,

Today we held our June meeting at Bella Caffe in Park Rapids. The next meeting would normally be on July 17, but that is now the date of our benefit golf tournament. As of right now, we think we will have to skip the July meeting since several of us will be working the tournament.

PRESENT TODAY: Jerry, Niomi, Richard, Brian, Deb, LuAnne, Sharon

BOOK PROGRESS: The 20×20 book has been ordered. We all looked at a proof/binder of the book. TS20 is being proofed. Marge Barrett’s workshop at Jerry’s place is coming up in one week. Sharon and Tarah did a book for Hope House in Bemidji.

20×20 EVENT: We have had great comments on the 20×20 Exhibit at Blank Canvas Gallery. It is up now through approx. July 17. There has been a write-up in the paper. We will try to get into Coming Events and PRLAAC listings.

MISCELLANEOUS: Jerry’s story was chosen to be in the Otter Tail Review. None of the rest of us have gotten notice yet.

Author’s event at Sister Wolf in Dorset is on Friday June 24th.

Writers retreat coming up, Madeline Island, Wisconsin. MISA Institute, School of the Arts. July. Deb attended last year and will be attending again this year.

Aspiring authors of genre fiction, check this out. Online help at Book Country. This site is in its initial phase, unveiled recently by Penguin Group USA. They will allow writers to post their work and receive critiques from other users. The site will explain the business of finding an agent, marketing and promoting a book, using social media and handling digital and subsidiary rights. Check it out.

Several writers read what they had written recently. The rest of us critiqued. A great meeting! We adjourned early so that Jerry and Sharon could have a quick review of our progress on various events.
