November Writers’ Meeting

Hi Everyone,  Today we held our November meeting. Our next meeting will be on Sunday, Dec. 15, 2013 from 12:30 to 3 PM at Bella Caffe in Park Rapids, MN.

PRESENT: Marlys, Jan, Jerry, Niomi, Mike, Sharon, Sonja, Lina, Betty.

NEXT TALKING STICK: The next call for submissions, for TS23, will go out sometime in December.

PAST EVENTS: Jerry and Niomi attended an event at the Armory in Park Rapids on October 31. It was well attended.
We are waiting to hear from Deb to see if she had some writers sign up for NANOWRIMO this year.
Sharon is attending an online class at the Loft. The class is focusing on short forms of writing. They have covered Flash Fiction, Micro Memoir, Prose Poetry, and Hint Fiction. Sharon highly recommends the online classes at the Loft. They are slick and easy with great assignments and chats for feedback.
We were told about the League of MN Poets where many writers we knew were mentioned. The Nimrod event was mentioned also. Many of the writers had pieces they had written at Nimrod.

UPCOMING EVENTS: Marsh Muirhead sent us a notice of a Poetry Slam to be held this Thursday, Nov. 21, 2013, at the American Legion in Bemidji at 7PM.
Jerry told us about Bloomington Writers Festival on Saturday March 22. Call 1-952-563-8575 or email Lpettit@gowebway.com for more information.
Marlys told us about a free online class from Harvard during the month of November about poetry in America.
Elisa Korentayer is putting on free workshops to teach marketing, social media skills, and creativity. Thurs. Nov. 21, 5 pm to 9 pm at A Center for the Arts in Frgus Falls. Saturday Nov. 23, 10:30am to 2:30 PM, Holmes Theater, Detroit Lakes. Each workshop will take place in two parts, creativity and business, separated by a bring-your-own lunch where Elisa will be available for Q&A and conversation. In the first half of the workshop, Elisa will lead participants in exercises to enhance their creativity. The second half of the workshop will focus on social media and marketing skills and tools. This is free. It is geared for adults and open to mature teenagers.

MISCELLANEOUS: Jerry is progressing nicely with his next book of short stories: Good Shepherd–almost ready to go to print.
Niomi’s book is also coming along nicely.

We had an excellent meeting with lots of good reads and good comments. Hope to see you next time!
