October Meeting Minutes 2014

Hello Everyone,

Today we held our October meeting. Our next meeting will be held on Sunday, November 16, 2014, from 12:30 to 3:30 at Bella Caffe in Park Rapids MN.

PRESENT:

Scott, Jan, Ryan, Sharon, Jerry, Mary.

PAST EVENTS:

Jane Hirshfield event in Bemidji on Sept. 27, 2014. Sharon and Marlys attended. It was a fun day to meet other writers and have great conversations. The day started with readings by the BEAT poets from KAXE radio. Then a class on the short poem by Jane, then book signings. Later in the day, they had a reception and snacks, followed by the evening reading.

Jan attended the Great Northern Radio show in Park Rapids MN at the Armory on Sept. 27, 2014. A lot of the show was radio. Jerry was the storyteller. There will be another program in Walker in December 2014. This was a live radio show. It should probably be archived on KAXE website.

Jerry attended the Sinclair Lewis event and told us of the speakers and workshops. William Kent Krueger was one of the speakers. He says he considers PLACE a character—it is that important. It tells you about location and mood.

No one who was at the meeting today had attended the Lake Region Writers event on October 4. We know that Harlan and Marlene attended. Sharon had received her complimentary copy of their book. We noticed that Sonja and Lina had also been selected to be in the book.

Scott had attended the Edgar Rice Burroughs conference in Fargo recently. This was for filmmakers, writers, etc.

MISCELLANEOUS:

Sharon is taking her third online class at the Loft, The Art of Finding Poetry, and loving it!

Jerry recommends that we look into GIVEMN for getting donations to keep our group going.

Scott also showed us the cover of the book Worlds of Philip Jose Farmer which he helped to edit. He suggested we all get on email lists for anything we have passion for and be on the lookout for workshops and events.

Most of us read things that we are working on and received helpful comments and critiques. A good meeting. Hope to see you next time!
