Finding the language of poetry in all genres, for all writers:

In this fun and informative writing workshop, we invite writers working in all genres and at any level of experience to engage with their creative side and to find their inner poet. Over the course of this three-hour workshop, we will see how poetry can be found within, and even used to enhance, long-form writing.

More importantly, writers will have the opportunity to find their own poetry sweet spot, whether it be adding some poetic language to their prose writing, trying their hand at a prose poem or sculpting a new poem from an old journal entry. Plenty of examples and writing time. Feel free to bring along a piece of raw unedited writing to work on during our session.

Instructor:
Laura Hansen is the author of the Stevens Poetry Manuscript Prize collection, Midnight River, which was also a Midwest Book Awards Finalist in Poetry. Published in numerous literary journals, Laura has judged poetry contests for Central Lakes College, The Talking Stick Literary Journal, and Brainerd Writers Alliance among others.

Laura is a two-time Grand Prize Winner in the League of Minnesota Poets Annual Poetry Contest and a three-time Five Wings Arts Council Grant Recipient. Laura facilitates Write in the Gallery at Great River Arts, is on the Lifetime Arts Creative Aging Roster of Teaching Artists, and has served on the boards of Great River Arts and The Five Wings Arts Council. A graduate of Concordia College in Moorhead, MN, Laura owned Bookin’ It— an independent bookstore—for over twenty years. Check out Laura’s Night Stack
