April 23rd 2006

What a beautiful spring day!! Perfect weather.

We had our April meeting at Beagle Books in Park Rapids today. The May meeting will be held on May 21, 2006 from 1:30 to 4 at Beagle Books.

Present today: Ted, John, Nancy, Russ, Sharon.

TALKING STICK 15:
TS15 is right on schedule. We are receiving submissions every day. June 1 is the deadline. We have the 3 judges scheduled. We have the editorial board chosen, ready to meet mid-June. We have not chosen a cover yet, but hope we can find one as good as last year’s. We will use Morris Publishing again.

2006 WRITING EVENTS:
Mary Sharrat will be doing a book signing at Beagle Books on July 1. We are hoping to do a workshop that weekend also — no details yet. Mary is a fiction novelist.
Another possibility is a poetry workshop with LouAnn Muhm in July. That is still in the discussion phase also.
August 5 is the date set for our 3rd Annual Jackpine Writers’ Celebration at Long Lake Theater in Hubbard. We are also scheduling a workshop on Memoirs by Catherine Watson that day.
August 27 is the Hackensack Book Art Celebration.
Another possibility we are working on is a 20×20 Art and Writing event. Jerry is discussing this with the Museum. This would be similar to the 30×30 event that several of our members were involved with at the Macrostie Art Theater in Grand Rapids. There would be 20 pieces of art and 20 writers. They would be matched up and each writer would have to write a one page story or poem about the piece of art.

MISCELLANEOUS:
We received a letter from a lady who was sending in submissions for TS15. She said that she was on the selection panel for the MN Book Awards. She loved TS Volume 14. Our book was not selected as a finalist, but she was an advocate for it. It is great to hear that people liked it. We will have to make TS15 even better!!

TENTH ANNUAL RED RIVER CONFERENCE ON WORLD LITERATURE:
This will be held April 20-27, 2007 at ND State University in Fargo. The subject will be Canonical Texts/Textuality of Canons. For more information, go to: www.ndsu.nodak.edu/ndsu/rrcwl/ or email: Carol.Pearson@ndsu.edu or regular mail:

Everyone read something they were working on. We spent most of our meeting time critiquing each others’ work.

Thanks to all who attended. See you next time! Tarah will be back from Oklahoma by that time. Hooray!
