August Meeting Minutes 2024

Sorry for the lateness of these minutes.

PRESENT:

Sharon, Dawn, Erin, Mike, Jan, Mary.

TALKING STICK PROGRESS:

The workshop and book party are on track for Saturday, Sept. 14, 2024. The workshop is from 9 AM to 12 noon. The meal for the workshop attendees is all set. We now have 22 signed up for the workshop. The book release party for TS33 will start at 1 PM.

HACKENSACK:

We sold $174 worth of Talking Stick books. Niomi, Dawn, and Sharon were there to sell books. Niomi also sold some of her books. Mike sold 45 of his books. Sharon sold several of her poetry books and also sold three of the Cindy Fox books.

PRLAAC:

Mike attended the August meeting. Art Leap is Sept. 28 and 29. They discussed the Northern Lights Opera and the theater.

OTHER EVENTS:

     Mike has many book selling events that he will be attending. One is the Founding Fathers Event, the oldest celebration in Minnesota.

     The Sioux Chef, Giiwedinong Museum Annual Feast, Sunday, Sept. 15, 2024 at the Armory in Park Rapids, Minnesota—203 Park Ave S. Registration 5 PM, presentation and feast 5:30 to 7:30. Tickets are $50 or $90 per couple. A celebration of the harvest of Anishinaabe and Lakota foods.

     Erin attended an online zoom workshop for a week with Marie Howe and Ellen Bass.

     Dawn’s brother Ben Westlie had a reading from his poetry book Run From Your Now at the Park Event Center in Waite Park, Minnesota.

     Poetry Walk of Green Island Preserve in Wadena for the month of August. Selections of poetry from The Third Forest by Mike Tauber will be on display. 850 Scheer Drive, Wadena, Minnesota.

We took turns reading things we had been working on while others critiqued. It seemed like an especially good day of readings. We agreed that we could fill a Talking Stick book with just good writings from our monthly group! Hope to see you all at the workshop and book party and at the next monthly meeting.
