For many years, we supported ourselves with donations, book sales, and a few grants. However, it is becoming increasingly difficult for us to fund our books. Without your support and donations, there would be no Jackpine Writers’ Bloc and no Talking Stick books. Remember, your tax donation is tax deductible. We are a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization.

August Meeting Minutes 2014

Hi Everyone,

Today we held our August meeting. Our next meeting will be on Sunday, September 21, 2014 from 12:30 to 3 PM at Bella Caffe in Park Rapids MN.

PRESENT:

Sharon, Deb, Mike, Jan, Ryan, Niomi, Jerry, Marlys, Mary, Lina.

BOOK RELEASE PARTY AND WORKSHOP:

Our Marsh Muirhead workshop and Talking Stick 23 Book Release Party are both coming up soon. September 13, 2014 at Blueberry Pines Golf Club. The workshop is from 9 to 12. The book party is from 1 to approximately 4:30. More information on our website www.jackpinewriters.com or by emailing Sharon Harris at sharrick1@wcta.net. There are a few spots left for the workshop but please sign up soon!

TALKING STICK 23:

The books have arrived. We will not give them out until the book party. After that, I will mail out one copy to each writer published in the book if they were not able to attend the book party.

BOOK EVENTS:

The Hackensack Book Art event is coming up this coming Saturday August 23, 2014 from 9 to 3. This is an all day event with many booksellers and artists. We have a JWB table and Jerry also has a table for his books. This event is put on by the Northwoods Arts Council. www.northwoodsartscouncil.org for more information.

Friday through Saturday, Sept. 26-28, 2014. Watermark’s Mississippi Headwaters Festival of Poetry and Haiku in Bemidji, MN. Jane Hirshfield lecture and reading plus many other events. Contact Mgmuirhead@midco.net.

PAST EVENTS:

Marlys attended the Northwoods Writers Conference in Bemidji in June and says it was the best one so far. She attended many of the events during the day and also some of the evening reading events. She told us about Haibuns, phobia poems, superstition poems, etc.

Marlys also attended a small workshop in Park Rapids with Erin Marsh. She also enjoyed this event regarding looking at a picture and writing a poem.

WRITERS PUBLISHED:

Niomi showed us that her story about a river cruise was published in Boomers magazine.

Sharon had a poem accepted by Lake Region Review.

Many of the attendees read poems or stories that they were working on. The rest of us critiqued. A good meeting!
