June Meeting Minutes 2025

Hello Everyone,

Today we had our June meeting.

PRESENT:

Sharon, Mike, Dawn, Erin, Sue, Jan.

TALKING STICK:

We are working on TS34, reading the first proofs, close to ordering the second ones. Tarah is working on the cover, using Dawn’s photos.

PRLAAC MEETING MINUTES (Heartland Arts):

Mike was able to attend. He showed us their calendar and the booklet they are using now. They say it is very hard to get sponsors this year. Putting up posters seems to be helpful. Thursday evenings with concerts are popular.

WRITING EVENTS:

     Remember that Hackensack is coming up! It is Saturday August 9.

    Our book party is Saturday Sept. 20.

     MN Northwoods Writers Conference is June 23-28. www.northwoodswriters.org

     41st Annual Minnesota Poetry Prizes Contest, www.mnpoets.com. They open May 1, 2025 and close July 31, 2025. 20 categories, over $2400 in cash prizes.

     Loon Country Arts in Bemidji may do another combo Art & Words event in August 2025.

     MIPA awards will be in about 2 weeks. Mike is a finalist in the anthology category.

     On Thursday, June 26, from 11 to 12:30, there is a writers’ workshop on poetry by Sean Hill at the Watermark Art Center in Bemidji. No fee, but must preregister by contacting Leah Grunzke at lgrunzke@watermarkartcenter.org.

     Mike is hoping to sell books in an artists’ booth near the Turtle Races in Nisswa later this summer. Mike is also working on stories for his next cabin book. This one will probably be about working on the cabin.

We had a good group today with lots of good writing. We took turns reading what we had been working on while others critiqued. It was a good day with good conversation. Hope to see you all next time!
