May Meeting Minutes 2025

Hello Everyone,

Today we held our May meeting.

PRESENT:

Sharon, Niomi, Marlys, Erin, Dawn, Candace, Tammy.

TALKING STICK:

We are working on the TS34 book. Hopefully we will order a proof soon. Tarah is working on the cover with some of Dawn’s photos. Sharon is working on the editing. Our book release party is scheduled for Saturday Sept. 20, 2025 at Jack Pines Resort near Osage MN. Candace is working on plans for a writers’ workshop that day using our Talking Stick 34 book.

HACKENSACK:

The Book and Art Event at Hackensack will be on August 9. Niomi and Dawn think they will be able to help that day.

HEARTLAND ARTS MINUTES:

They discussed their 20th anniversary, their Community Calendar, 4th of July parade, Art Beat, Noon hour concerts, Kent Nerburn will be at the Park Rapids Library July 30th at 6 PM, a new play workshop NLOC, Community Ed art classes, Headwaters Center for Lifelong Learning fall programming, Nemeth Art Center exhibits, Park Rapids Sculpture Trail, Armory Arts and Event Center classes.

WRITING EVENTS:

     Our Mike Lein is a finalist in MIPA with his newest book The Last Cabin.

     Erin is still doing Two Sylvia’s Press. They send you writing prompts once a week and have free workshops.

     Check out Press 53 with their 53 word story contest.

     MN Northwoods Writers Conference at Bemidji State University in Bemidji MN June 23-28, 2025. www.northwoodswriters.org.

We spent time taking turns reading things we were working on while others critiqued. Excellent writing and good conversation today. Hope to see you all next time!
