Workshop/Book Release

INVITING THE MUSE

WORKSHOP WITH LOUANN SHEPARD MUHM

In this multi-genre workshop, we will talk about the various ways writers can “invite the muse,” or jumpstart their writing when it isn’t flowing easily. Sometimes the words just come, unbidden, and it is all we can do to capture them on paper. Those are the lucky times! More often, we have to find ways to ignite ideas and to get something worthwhile onto the page. This workshop, through handouts, discussion, and mini-writing sessions, will give you ten ways to help ignite that spark, and to set the world on fire with your words.

Date and Time: Saturday, September 21, 2013 from 9 AM to 12 Noon.

Location: Blueberry Pines Golf Club, Menahga, MN 56464

Cost of Workshop and lunch: $35. (You will receive a coupon for the lunch.)

LouAnn Shepard Muhm is a poet and teacher from northern Minnesota. Her poems have appeared or are forthcoming in Antiphon, Pirene’s Fountain, North Coast Review, Alba, Red River Review, Eclectica, qarrtsiluni, and CALYX, among other journals and anthologies, and she was a finalist for the Creekwalker Poetry Prize and the Late Blooms Postcard Series. Muhm is a recipient of Minnesota State Arts Board Artist Initiative Grants in Poetry in 2006 and 2012. Her full-length poetry collection Breaking the Glass (Loonfeather Press, 2008) was a finalist for the Midwest Book Award in Poetry.

The Talking Stick 21 Book Release Party and this Writers’ Workshop will be held on Saturday, September 21, 2013, at Blueberry Pines, located between Park Rapids and Menahga MN on Highway 71. Blueberry Pines Golf Course and Dinner Club is located approximately 4 miles north of Menahga MN and 8 miles south of Park Rapids MN. The Workshop will run from 9AM to 12 Noon. The Workshop cost includes lunch at noon. The Book Release Party will start at 1PM and run till approximately 4:30 PM. The Book Release Party is free. Lunch at noon will be on your own if you are just attending the Book Release Party. Dinner/supper after the Book Release Party will be on your own.
